Why does Princess Gaoyang, as Li Shimin’s beloved daughter, like monks

Many people are not familiar with Princess Gaoyang and the monk. Let’s follow the history encyclopedia editor to appreciate them together.

Princess Gaoyang was the most beloved daughter of Emperor Taizong Li Shimin. When she reached the age of marriage and just became an adult, Li Shimin carefully selected Fang Yiai, the second son of then Prime Minister Fang Xuanling, as his son-in-law.
Unfortunately, Fang Yiai is not at all to the taste of Princess Gaoyang. After the wedding, the second son of the Fang family never entered the princess’s boudoir again. It seems that he is not the princess’s favorite. So the question is, what type of man does Princess Gaoyang really like?
Princess Gaoyang has a great hobby of playing in the mountains and water. Once, she met the elegant and handsome monk Bianji from Huichang Temple, who was less than 20 years old that year. So, what is the origin of the debate monk?

The origin of the debate monk is extraordinary. He became a monk at the age of 15 and once studied under Master Daoyue. After Tang Xuanzang returned from his pilgrimage, he needed an assistant to translate the scriptures he brought back from Hongfu Temple. Due to his profound knowledge and gentle demeanor, he was ultimately selected by Xuanzang to participate in the writing of “Records of the Western Regions of the Great Tang Dynasty”. At this time, the debate was only 26 years old.
From this, we can see that Princess Gaoyang likes handsome and elegant scholars like debate monks. Unfortunately, Fang Yiai is not such a person.
Princess Gaoyang and Master Bianji fell in love at first sight and began their entangled romantic relationship. It is said that the last love of the groom’s house often came forward to summon the debater into the mansion and kept watch for Princess Gaoyang and the debater monk. I really don’t know what kind of scheming is behind Fang Yiai?
Of course, Princess Gaoyang allowed him to interact with the maidservants in the mansion in order to repay his loyalty. This is truly a strange couple.
In the 19th year of the Zhenguan reign, Bianji was about to go to Hongfu Temple to serve as an assistant to Tang Xuanzang. At the moment of parting, Princess Gaoyang gave her “Golden Treasure God Pillow” to the debater. This is a bloody case caused by a pillow.
A few years later, a thief stole this priceless jade pillow from the residence of the Debate Master at Hongfu Temple. After the incident, everyone was stunned by the jade pillow: How did Princess Gaoyang’s pillow appear at the hands of the Debate Monk?
After some investigation, it was found that the pillow was a private gift from Princess Gaoyang to the Debate Monk. After learning about it, Emperor Taizong of Tang was very disappointed and ordered the beheading of the Debate Master and the execution of the maidservants around Princess Gaoyang. Additionally, Princess Gaoyang is never allowed to enter the palace. After the debate was executed by beheading in Xishi, Tang Xuanzang collected his relics in the monk’s quarters of Dacien Temple. Princess Gaoyang was imprisoned in the princess’s mansion and lost her freedom, like a walking corpse.
Later, Li Zhi ascended to the throne and restored the freedom of Princess Gaoyang. She began to search for handsome young monks everywhere, seeking pleasure and amusement with them.
Princess Gaoyang, in retaliation for her father’s punishment, had relationships with monks Zhixu, Huihongze, and Taoist Li Huang. She also conspired to overthrow Li Zhi and elected her uncle Li Yuanjing as emperor. However, after the failure, Princess Gaoyang was ordered to commit suicide and her husband’s love was executed.
The princess who liked gentle and elegant monks was only twenty-seven or eight years old when she passed away.
