When Zhao Kuangyin ascended the throne, he issued an edict stating, “In ancient times, Tang and Wu initiated revolutions, declaring their great titles to align with the people’s will; the founding of the Han and Tang dynasties was based on the initial enfeoffment to establish the state. Therefore, the dynastic name ‘Great Song’ is appropriate.” [8] Since Zhao Kuangyin served as the Military Governor of Suizhou Guidi before ascending the throne, this dynastic name was chosen. As the imperial family bore the surname Zhao, it was also referred to as the “Zhao Song.” [9] Additionally, according to the theory of the Five Virtues, the Song Dynasty was associated with the fire element, hence the alternative names “Fire Song” or “Inferno Song.” Due to the Zhao clan’s ancestral home in Tianshui, later generations also called the Song Dynasty
