Speaking of Li Yunlong, as we all know, this person is truly charming, with charm in all aspects, everywhere. Therefore, this TV series has been very popular for so many years. Recently, some people want to review Li Yunlong again. Let’s take a look at what kind of person Li Yunlong really is!

Introduction to Li Yunlong
Li Yunlong (December 14, 1910 – 1968) was the protagonist of the novel “Bright Sword” by Du Liang and a TV series adapted from the original work. His prototype was General Wang Jinshan, who incorporated some of the personalities and deeds of Zhong Wei and others.
He participated in the “Huangma Uprising” in 1927 and later joined the revolution. During the Long March, he served as the commander of the Fourth Red Army, and during the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, he served as the commander of the Independent Regiment of the 386th Brigade of the 129th Division of the 18th Group Army of the National Revolutionary Army. During the Liberation War, he was the commander of the New Second Division of the Central Plains Field Army, and later transferred to the East China Field Army. After liberation, he was transferred to the post of Commander of C Coast Guard of Fujian Military Region.

In 1955, he studied at Nanjing National Defense University and continued to serve as the commander of the army after graduation, receiving the rank of Major General. Appointed and established China’s first special operations force, the Liangshan Detachment. The team once infiltrated Kinmen, providing terrain coordinates for the People’s Liberation Army to shell Kinmen, and later participated in the Kinmen Campaign.
During the Cultural Revolution in 1968, when the division headquarters under its military jurisdiction, code named “Mount Taishan”, was occupied by the armed Red Guard Corps “Jinggangshan Corps” led by Zou Ming, it ordered the guard battalion to go there. After repeated warnings were invalid and oral approval was obtained from the then Military Commission and Lin Biao’s office, it led the troops to fight back. Finally, 48 rebels were killed and 110 were injured at the cost of 18 dead and 14 wounded. Later, due to this incident, he was persecuted by the Central Cultural Revolution Group and committed suicide at home in the same year. He was rehabilitated in 1978.
Li Yunlong’s historical prototype
Bright Sword “is a rare and excellent drama. The characters in the drama have distinct personalities, leaving a deep impression on us, especially Li Yunlong, who has a strong character, many ideas, and dares to uphold the truth. So does Li Yunlong have a prototype in reality? Many people believe that Li Yunlong’s prototype is Wang Jinshan, a lieutenant general in 1955, but this statement is not accurate. Director Zhang Qian once said, “There is a shadow of history here
This character is fictional and has no prototype. So who does the director mean by the shadow of history?
In fact, Li Yunlong in “Bright Sword” is a fusion, pieced together by the author based on several distinctive and legendary figures among our military commanders, including the shadows of Wang Jinshan, commander of the 12th Army of the Second Field Army, and Zhong Wei, commander of the 49th Army of the Fourth Field Army.
But the main prototype of Li Yunlong’s deeds should be Wang Jinshan. Wang Jinshan, also known as Wang Madman, is definitely a warmonger with considerable command skills and is a capable general under Liu Bocheng’s command. From a disciplinary perspective, it is unlikely that any of the regimental commanders of the 129th Division would be suitable, and only Wang Jinshan is more in line with the image portrayed in the film. From the plot of the battles, it can be seen that these battles were mostly commanded by General Wang Jinshan. Therefore, it can be basically determined that Li Yunlong’s prototype was based on Wang Jinshan as the basic material. Apart from the experience of war, they are also very similar in terms of emotional experiences. Wang Jinshan’s first wife was also a nurse and a hospital maid. She met and fell in love with Tian Yu when Wang Jinshan was hospitalized due to injury.
Then it also incorporated the personality and deeds of Major General Zhong Wei. Zhong Wei has a fierce and aggressive combat style, loves to use vulgar language, loves to drink alcohol, is capable of fighting and winning battles, and has made numerous military achievements. It is recorded that on the Northeast battlefield, there was an event where Zhong Wei led his troops to capture Wenjiatai and captured a large number of enemies. Most officers of the Kuomintang army disguised themselves as soldiers and hid among them. Zhong Wei ordered the prisoners to gather and run, and all those who fell behind were arrested and interrogated. As expected, the majority of those who fell behind were military officers, including Chen Linda, the commander of the Kuomintang’s New Fifth Army. This incident was similar to the approach taken by Li Yunlong in “Bright Sword”.
Of course, some people also say that Li Yunlong’s prototypes include General Chen Zaidao, General Chen Zhengxiang, General Tang Jinlong, and so on. In fact, it is not so important who Li Yunlong’s prototype is. What is important is the spirit of revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives and shed blood for the cause of revolution. It is precisely because of their contributions that we have a happy life today.
Revolutionary martyrs are the pioneers of the times, the backbone of the nation, and the heroes of the motherland. Their spirit shines for generations and will forever be remembered in history. Learn from the martyrs and pay tribute to them!
