Jin Yong loves Journey to the West Linghu Chong and Wei Xiaobao both have the freedom and laxity of grandchildren

Jin Yong once talked about “those with extremely high taste in popular literature”, citing examples such as “Journey to the West”, Song Ci, Yuan Qu, and so on.
Like his creator Jin Yong, Wei Xiaobao has also loved listening to stories and telling stories since childhood. On the same day in Mount Wutai, Wei Xiaobao told Shuang’er the story of “Tang Monk and Monk Going to the West for Buddhist scriptures”.
In Chapter 40 of Journey to the West, the king of Wuji Kingdom wants to transfer the throne to Sun Wukong. However, Wukong said, “To be honest with you, if Lao Sun is willing to become emperor, he has become the emperor of all the kingdoms and states in the world. However, we have become accustomed to being monks and are so lazy. If we become emperor, we must keep our heads and long hair, not sleep at dusk, not sleep at the five drums, listen to reports, and feel uneasy; when we see disasters and famines, we are sad and helpless. How can we get used to it
On this point, Wei Xiaobao shares a deep feeling with Sun Wukong. When Lv Liuliang and others persuaded Wei Xiaobao to revolt, overthrow the Qing court and “become the emperor by myself”, Lord Wei replied, “I am a food eater, and I want to stay here to eat his mother food for decades…. If I want to be the emperor, this guy will probably not survive, and if I cut it down, everything will be a mess. Besides, being the emperor is not very happy. He will worry when there is a strong wind in Taiwan; he will worry when there is a rebellion in Yunnan. Being the emperor is hard and not fun, and I will never do it.” (Chapter 40 of Deer Tripod)
Being an emperor is not easy either! The two plots in these two novels should have a connection.
Sun Wukong boasted, “I’m going, but with a three inch tongue, not to mention Zhu Bajie, even Zhu Jiujie has the ability to teach him to follow me.” (Chapter 38 of Journey to the West) Wei Xiaobao secretly made a vow: “Your grandmother’s, I can’t marry your stinky little mother in this life. I’m your 17th and 18th generation gray grandson of Zheng Keu. I, Wei Xiaobao, am Wang Jiudan. You bastard, add another egg. In short, I have been immersed in you all my life, consumed by it, and my soul will never dissipate. I will cling to you until the end. ”(Chapter 28 of “The Deer and the Cauldron”) “One more egg for a bastard” and “One more ring for a pig” are both unreasonable and illogical, yet they are both so fun.
The novel written by Jin Yong before “The Deer and the Cauldron” was “Laughing Proudly in the Jianghu”. The title of ‘Laughing Proudly in the Jianghu’ may have originated from ‘Journey to the West’. In the ninth chapter of “Journey to the West,” there is a fisherman named Zhang Shao who wrote the poem “Moon over the West River.” There is a line that goes: “If you come here, the cooking flavor will be too strong, and you will laugh and be arrogant in the martial arts world
In “Laughing Proudly in the Jianghu”, the most dazzling mixed world demon king – Ren Woxing, whose name may also come from “Journey to the West”. The 22nd chapter of “Journey to the West” records the oral autobiography of Monk Sha in poetic form: “Born strong and majestic from a young age, the universe has wandered for thousands of miles. Heroes are renowned throughout the world, and heroic families are like appearances. I am at the mercy of all nations and nine provinces
Jin Yong claimed to have a “free and unrestrained personality that suffers from strict discipline and goes his own way”. He believed that “being carefree and not being controlled by anyone” is the greatest joy in life. Reading the imaginative “Journey to the West” would be full of interest, and vocabulary such as “laughing proudly in the martial arts world” and “letting me go” naturally have attraction and charm for people with this personality. At first glance, I read it and firmly remember it, never forgetting it for life. In 2001, in Taiwan, someone asked him about his “daily routine”, and Jin Yong replied, “I can do my own routine, there is no regularity
Overall, Linghu Chong and Wei Xiaobao cannot be classified as the same kind. But there are also similarities between these two different people. Feeling pain for strict discipline, being free and unrestrained, and not being restrained, Sun Wukong is like this, Jin Yong is like this, Ling Huchong is like this, and Wei Xiaobao is like this. Linghu Chong said to Tian Boguang, “What I don’t want to do, not to mention you, is something that no one can force, even my master, my wife, the leader of the Five Sacred Mountains, or the Emperor Laozi.” (Chapter 9 of “Laughing and Proud Jianghu”) This is in line with the spirit of Sun Wukong. When Wei Xiaobao and Shuang’er were talking about “Journey to the West”, they simply said, “I am a Sun Monkey Son Sun Traveler
Sun Wukong has no father or mother, Linghu Chong has no mother or father, and Wei Xiaobao knows that his mother does not know his father.
Sun Wukong complained incessantly, “All of this is me, Buddha, sitting in that state of extreme happiness, with nothing to do, taking care of the Tripitaka Sutra! If you have the intention to persuade goodness, you should send it to the Eastern Land… but you are reluctant to send it away, yet you ask me to come and retrieve it.” (Chapter 77 of Journey to the West) In “Laughing Proud of the Jianghu,” Qi, the leader of the “White Jiao Gang,” answered Linghu Chong’s question about “why the Shaolin Sect detained Miss Ren,” saying, “I don’t know. Most likely, the monks of the Shaolin Sect have nothing to do after eating and deliberately find things to make things difficult for everyone.” (Chapter 25 of “Laughing Proud of the Jianghu”) Both voices are excellent, but slightly similar.
In “The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber”, the Ming Buddhist monk Xie Xun’s title as the “Golden Haired Lion King” is not necessarily unrelated to the “Golden Haired Lion” in “Journey to the West”, right?
