In history, as daughters of the royal family, their fate was often tragic, and most of them became political sacrifices. In history, there was a princess who enjoyed the favor of her elder brother throughout her life, but was ultimately personally executed by him. She was Princess Gaoyang.

Gaoyang was a daughter favored by Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, and her personality was closely related to Li Shimin’s indulgence towards her. Princess Gaoyang was not born to Li Shimin’s concubine, and there is no detailed record in history about her mother. Li Shimin felt that he owed her a debt, so he doted on Princess Gaoyang very much. Of course, it was precisely Li Shimin’s indulgence that led to her tragic ending in the later stage.
On the surface, ancient princesses appeared to have golden branches and jade leaves, with luxurious clothing and food. However, politically speaking, princesses only had one role, which was gifts, and Gao Yang was no exception. As the elder brother of Princess Gaoyang, Li Zhi has had a good relationship since childhood, receiving both the favor of his father and the support of his elder brother, showing great indulgence. When she was fifteen years old, Emperor Taizong gave her to Fang Xuanling’s son Fang Yi’ai as her son-in-law. For Gao Yang, she was very dissatisfied with this political marriage. Although Fang Yiai was talented, she was not the type that Princess Gao Yang liked. Although Fang Yiai was the son of the famous minister Fang Xuanling, he did not enjoy studying and had to resort to violence. Gao Yang naturally wouldn’t be interested in such a dull warrior. After marriage, she was very indifferent to this person and often went out to play. Although Fang Yiai is a warrior, he knows very well in his heart that this marriage is nominal but not real, so he must maintain this marriage. Therefore, he follows the princess every day and plays with her.
During a hunting trip in the outskirts of Chang’an, Gao Yang met a handsome and elegant monk named Bianji from Huichang Temple, who was only in his early twenties at the time. The two fell in love at first sight. Fang Yiai not only didn’t get angry about this matter, but also personally acted as a sentinel for this’ lover ‘. Until 645 AD, when Bian Ji was selected to translate the scriptures brought back by Tang Xuanzang from the West, Bian Ji had to stay at Hongfu Temple for a long time. Gao Yang, who was extremely reluctant, decided to temporarily separate from Bian Ji for the sake of his future. So she gave her golden pillow to the debater, asking the pillow to accompany her lover as a souvenir. 、

In the winter of 649 AD, officers and soldiers caught a thief and found a golden pillow from him. After some investigation, it was found that this pillow was given to the debate by Princess Gaoyang. After the officials reported it to Emperor Taizong of Tang, he was very angry and ordered Princess Gaoyang not to step into the palace gate. Then issue an order to behead the debater. On July 10th, 649 AD, Li Shimin passed away. Not only did she not feel sad about it, but she also hated this cruel and ruthless father. After Li Zhi ascended to the throne, she restored the freedom of Princess Gaoyang. She repeatedly urged her husband to seize the title of her husband’s family, but ultimately failed. In the end, she was willing to join forces with outsiders to launch a coup. This matter is recorded in history as a major political case.
Later, Li Zhi learned that Princess Gaoyang was involved in the political affairs of her husband’s family and wanted to rebel and overthrow his own throne. In the end, Princess Gaoyang and her husband were killed, and their sons were exiled to Lingnan. Fang Xuanling was executed at the end of his family, and the royal families such as Li Yuanjing and Li Ke were purged and suffered a catastrophic disaster. If she had continued to follow her father’s arrangement like this, her ending would not have been so tragic.
