At the end of the Tang Dynasty, the emperor was in a state of confusion and the people were struggling to make ends meet. As a result, many capable officials and generals were sent out, but none of them were able to save the crumbling Tang Dynasty. Wang Xingyu is not well-known in history. His early experiences are commendable, but later he chose to rebel due to greed. As the saying goes, he made mistakes step by step and ultimately ended up with a tragic death. At first, Wang Xingyu was a subordinate of Zhu Mei, the military governor of Binning. Two years after Tang Xizong ascended the throne, Zhu Mei betrayed the court and enthroned Li Hao as emperor, and even asked Wang Xingyu to capture the fleeing Tang Xizong. However, Wang Xingyu did not do so. He defected and killed rebellious people such as Zhu Mei and Li Changfu. It was a cold winter, and many people froze to death, with corpses scattered everywhere.
Wang Xingyu killed Zhu Mei, supported the restoration of Tang Xizong, and was appointed as the military governor of Binning. Later, Emperor Zhaozong of Tang succeeded to the throne and granted Wang Xingyu an iron voucher to avoid death. Wang Xingyu, who was then the Minister of the Imperial Secretariat, wanted to become the Minister of the Imperial Secretariat. Upon learning of this, the emperor began to guard against him. Wang Xingyu harbored deep resentment and joined forces with Li Maozhen and Han Jian to attack Chang’an, killing the ministers who had reported him. They conspired to abolish Emperor Zhaozong and establish Li Bao as the emperor. Wang Xingyu’s behavior was similar to that of Zhu Mei that year. Li Keyong led his army south to serve the king and rescued Tang Zhaozong. Wang Xingyu abandoned the city and fled, but was ultimately killed by his subordinates.
Wang Xingyu made great contributions in suppressing the Huang Chao Uprising and supporting the restoration of Tang Xizong in his early years, but in the end, he was killed by his inner desires.
