What is the historical status of Princess Li Nu Nu of Jincheng At the age of 12, married to a distant family in a foreign land

Hi, it’s time to meet everyone again. Today, the History Encyclopedia editor has brought an article about Li Nunu. I hope you like it.

In the first year of the Shengli era (698 AD), a baby girl was born in the mansion of Li Shouli, the Prince of Bing, and her family named her Li Nu Nu. Shortly thereafter, Li Nunu was adopted by Emperor Zhongzong of Tang, Li Xian. In the palace, everyone knew that Li Nunu was a member of the royal family, so many princesses bullied her, and the palace people were not surprised by this. However, what no one expected was that this inconspicuous little girl would become the second Princess Wencheng in the future.
After Princess Wencheng married into Tubo, she brought peace between Tubo and the Tang Dynasty. However, after the death of Songtsen Gampo, Tubo invaded the Tang Dynasty’s border and the two countries continued to wage wars. However, during the reign of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang, Tibet suffered more defeats than victories. Therefore, Tibet sent envoys to the Tang Dynasty to seek peace and hoped to marry a Tang princess to form an alliance with the Tang Dynasty.
Marrying a Tubo from afar is not a blessing for a princess, as marrying into Tubo basically means that she will never be able to return to her homeland in this lifetime. The emperor would not have the heart to marry his own daughter to Tubo, so they would crown their daughters as princesses and marry them into Tubo. Princess Wencheng is like this, and the meaning of Li Nu Nu’s existence is also like this.

Emperor Zhongzong of Tang conferred the title of Princess Jincheng upon Li Nonu and married her to Tibetan Zanpu Chidezuzzan. Before Princess Jincheng got married, Tang Zhongzong wept with sadness. Although she was not his biological daughter, she grew up in the palace and Zhongzong still had feelings for her. So Emperor Zhongzong of Tang renamed Shiping County as Jincheng County in memory of Princess Jincheng. At this time, Princess Jincheng was only 12 years old.
After Princess Jincheng married into Tubo, Tubo showed great respect for her, and Chidezuzzan specially built a palace for her to live in. Princess Jincheng also brought many books and musicians to Tubo, which are advanced cultures worth learning for Tubo. However, Princess Jincheng’s luck was not as good as Princess Wencheng’s. After marrying into Tibet, the pro war faction of Tibet gained the upper hand and often launched wars against the Tang Dynasty. As a princess who married into Tubo from the Tang Dynasty, Princess Jincheng naturally found herself in a dilemma.
In the fourth year of Kaiyuan (716 AD), Tubo sought peace with the Tang Dynasty, but the two countries still frequently engaged in wars. Princess Jincheng was very heartbroken. She did not want Tubo to fall into war with her motherland, so she persuaded Tubo Zanpu to seek peace with the Tang Dynasty on the one hand, and constantly appealed to the Tang Dynasty for peace on the other hand. In the 22nd year of Kaiyuan (733 AD), Tang and Tibet signed a peace agreement, agreeing that the two countries would not invade each other and open up mutual markets.
The peace between Tang and Tubo was a good thing for both peoples, as it spared the people on the border from the suffering of war and promoted economic development and cultural exchange between Tang and Tubo.
In the 28th year of Kaiyuan, Princess Jincheng passed away due to illness in Tubo. After the news reached the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang was deeply saddened. He observed a nationwide silence for Princess Jincheng and suspended the court for three days. There are many records in the history books of Tubo about Princess Jincheng, and they highly praise her, believing that she is as great as Princess Wencheng.
As a daughter of the royal family, Princess Jincheng married Tubo at her most beautiful age. She worked hard to promote peace between Tubo and the Tang Dynasty, and her contribution was no less than that of Princess Wencheng, who left a name in history.
