Sha Monk, you must be familiar with this character. However, it’s just that he’s not unfamiliar. Do you know that he was one of the three disciples who followed Tang Sanzang to the West to obtain scriptures? But do you know about his other experiences? Unlike Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie, people have various interpretations of them derived from Journey to the West. Sha Monk can be said to be the weakest among the four disciples, sometimes even more popular than Bai Longma. So what kind of person is this’ weak ‘Sha Monk?

1. The Origin of Sha Monk
Sha Monk is a common name given to him by people. The Dharma name given to him by Guanyin is Wujing, so his “scientific name” should be Sha Wujing. However, according to common practice, we call him Sha Monk. He, like Zhu Bajie, was originally an official in the heavenly realm. However, compared to Zhu Bajie’s teasing of Chang’e Fairy, Sha Monk only accidentally broke a glass cup and was therefore demoted from the heavenly realm. This is indeed somewhat infuriating and unfair. However, if we knew that this glass cup was a beloved treasure of the Jade Emperor, perhaps we would also understand.
Sha Monk’s original position in the celestial realm was’ Rolling Shutter General ‘, which sounds majestic and a general, but in fact, the first two words’ Rolling Shutter’ are also important. What does it mean? It simply means to roll up the curtain. Where’s the curtain? The curtain of the Jade Emperor frame. From this perspective, Sha Monk should be the attendant of the Jade Emperor during his travels, not only to roll up curtains, but also responsible for the security work of the Jade Emperor. Simply put, it is similar to the “imperial guards with swords” during the Qing Dynasty.

Why does Sha Monk have a weak sense of existence
There was once a popular joke about Sha Monk, which said that he only repeated three lines of dialogue on his journey to obtain scriptures. Of course, this is just a joke. If you take it seriously, it’s really unnecessary. However, the presence of Sha Monk is indeed too weak. If you were really asked to say a few lines, you would definitely not think of a few words. Why is this happening? Perhaps it has a lot to do with his background and personality.
As we have mentioned before, the identity and background of Sha Monk are still somewhat inferior compared to his two senior brothers. However, Sha Monk himself is not as capable of causing chaos as Sun Wukong, causing unrest in the heavenly realm. The entire heavenly court is mobilized just to capture him alone. He is not as lascivious as Zhu Bajie. Whenever he meets a beautiful sister, he wants to approach her and chat with her. He is not as lazy as he is, always hesitating when faced with difficulties, and wants to return to Gao Laozhuang to enjoy a peaceful life.
What kind of person is Sha Monk
Based on the previous points, Sha Monk’s personality should be down-to-earth, honest, and practical. When he was in the heavenly realm, if he wasn’t honest, but always had some crooked thoughts or didn’t work hard, he wouldn’t have been responsible for the work of the Jade Emperor frame. After all, if people like Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie were to come over, they wouldn’t be willing to do it and wouldn’t be able to do it. In Tang Sanzang’s team, the sand monks were always picking out the salutes, working diligently and without complaint. Occasionally, they could also help the master brother come up with ideas.
The presence of Sha Monk is indeed too weak, which may be deliberately set by the author. After all, if the master and disciple are all Sun Wukong, who is responsible for the main output, Zhu Bajie, who is responsible for adjusting the atmosphere, Tang Sanzang, the main core character, and the main task’s means of transportation, Bai Longma, then who else will do those tough jobs?
