There are countless poets in the Tang Dynasty, and there are always some less famous poets who have risen and fallen in history. A few days ago, when I was looking at the Eighteen Great Poets of ancient times, I discovered an unknown poet hidden among them, named Cui Yu. Whenever we talk about Tang and Song poetry, the works that always come to our minds are famous works such as “Quiet Night Thoughts,” “Morning Glory to the White Emperor City,” “Spring Gaze,” and “Joyful Rain on a Spring Night,” but we rarely mention Cui Yu. Today, the editor will talk about who Cui Yu is? Why is he called Cui Yuanyang by the world?

1、 Cui Yu’s Personal Profile
Cui Jue, also known as Mengzhi, was born in the Tang Dynasty. His poetry is like phoenix feathers and phoenix tails, very magnificent and beautiful. It reads like flowing clouds and water, skilled in using metaphors, and has achieved great success in becoming a jinshi. Cui Yu is relatively unknown, but he is very famous for his song “With Gifts” and is known for his battles.
2、 The Origin of Cui Yuanyang

Cui Yu is known as Cui Yuanyang solely because he once wrote a poem called ‘Yuanyang Poetry’, which reads as follows:
Mandarin Duck Poetry
It’s difficult to spread the rumor to the Eagle Cage Parrot, it’s rumored to be before reaching the Jade Pass.
Mandarin ducks sleep on their pillows, their dreams shattered in the cold night after a year.
Last year, the colorful sleeves were worn out, and the remaining flowers were unbearable to look at.
On the mandarin duck machine, mandarin duck brocade is woven into pieces that are difficult to send.
Angry and unable to open her eyebrows, Xiaoyu opened the curtain and called out to Mei.
The mandarin duck dress was embroidered with mandarin ducks, which impressed Lang Zeng.
Come and enjoy the late spring in front of the flowers, and the spring garden will dispel hatred and bring new white flowers.
Mandarin ducks have mandarin duck flowers and mandarin duck fruits, and the double kernels of the fruit can also cause anger.
Separate hanging Yang Fu Dian carts, with wheels eager to break and leaning against the cold Lu.
On the Yuanyang paper, the characters’ Yuanyang ‘are written with the words’ lovesick’ and ‘tearful’.
The book series of Canghong sends white clouds, and the clouds are connected to the withered grass and slanting.
On the mandarin duck pond, the mandarin ducks’ necks were about to cross, and their wings had already parted.
Autumn brings a slight coolness to the brocade, and the brocade presents itself timidly.
On the mandarin duck screen, there is a painting of mandarin ducks, in which they live together like smiling people.
People go to Tianya to go upstairs lazily, and look at the morning glory on Qixi at the head of the building.
The mandarin duck needle is threaded onto the mandarin duck thread, and when the thread is about to be picked, it is afraid of autumn.
This poem contains 17 “mandarin ducks” throughout, truly deserving of the title of “Mandarin Duck Poetry”. This poem mainly depicts the emotions of a young woman who waits for her husband to return home every day. In ancient times, mandarin ducks were a symbol of marital love and mutual support. Because of this poem ‘Mandarin Ducks’, Cui Yu is known as’ Cui Mandarin Ducks’, which is also very cute.
