What is the relationship between Xue Rengui and Xue Pinggui Is there Xue Pinggui in history

Speaking of Xue Rengui, I believe many people know that he was a great general in Chinese history and also had a very famous epic in Chinese history. Since ancient times, there have been many explorations about Xue Rengui. Recently, someone has been asking me, what is the relationship between Xue Rengui and Xue Pinggui? Is there Xue Pinggui in Chinese history? The specific editor has also done some sorting, let’s take a look together below!
Xue Rengui, also known as Xue Li, was a famous general in the early Tang Dynasty. He joined the army at the end of the Zhenguan period and fought for decades. He once defeated the Nine Surnames Tiele, subdued Goguryeo, and defeated the Turks. He made outstanding contributions and left behind stories such as “Good Strategies for Xigange”, “Three Arrows to Conquer Tianshan”, “Divine Courage to Conquer Liaodong”, “Benevolent Governance of Gaoli Kingdom”, “Love for the People in Xiangzhou City”, and “Removing Hat to Retreat Ten Thousand Enemies”. During the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty, Xue Rengui rose to the positions of Chief Historian of Guazhou, General of the Right Leading Army Guard, Acting Governor of Jianxiao, and Duke of Pingyang County. He was a truly historical figure.
Xue Pinggui was also a figure of the Tang Dynasty, born into poverty. Wang Baochuan, the third daughter of Prime Minister Wang Yun, chose him as her son-in-law by throwing embroidered balls. However, her father, who despised poverty and loved wealth, firmly refused. Helpless, she broke off her father daughter relationship with her father after three high fives and married Xue Pinggui to live in a cold kiln. Afterwards, Xue Pinggui joined the army and traveled to Xiliang to fight, eventually becoming the king of Xiliang and returning to the Central Plains to reunite with Wang Baochuan. But there is no record of him in historical books, only Chinese folklore and opera about him.
According to some veteran artists, Xue Pinggui’s origin is as follows: one year, a wealthy household in Shanxi celebrated his mother’s birthday by inviting a hall meeting to perform plays such as “Fenhe Bay”. His mother learned of the tragic ending between King Xue and the two, and became depressed and ill. The script for the reunion of Xue Rengui and his wife was solicited for the grand prize by Fu Zi. A certain literati, in order not to violate history, fabricated a character named “Xue Pinggui” and titled the play “Wang Baochuan”. The plot is similar to the play performed by Xue Rengui. In order to cater to the wealthy mother’s mentality, the ending was changed to a happy reunion. After the performance, the wealthy mother was overjoyed and recovered from her illness. From then on, there appeared on the Beijing Opera stage a Xue Rengui and a Xue Pinggui, “two Xue coexisting” and peaceful.
So Xue Rengui is a real character, while Xue Pinggui is transformed from Xue Rengui’s story, or in other words, based on Xue Rengui, integrating the stories of other characters and then processing and fabricating Xue Pinggui’s deeply ingrained character.
